Here’s what we’ve changed in Build 29 of Big Mail.
FYI: You may see some duplicated messages after this update – don’t worry, these are only on your device. This is because we’ve tweaked how we uniquely identify messages across folders. Hopefully we won’t have to do this too often. Resetting the app and syncing again will remove any duplicates.
You may also be prompted to add an account again. You can safely dismiss this.

- Fixes an issue where mailbox names with international characters didn’t decode correctly (Note: you will need to first delete and reinstall the app)
- Fixes an issue where adding an Outlook or Microsoft account would fail.
- Fixes an issue where Smartbox unread counts could appear incorrect.
- Fixes a crash that could happen during sync if an email had malformed headers.
- Fixes a crash that could happen when adding a new mail account.
- Fixes a crash that could happen in the background if you have notifications or Widgets enabled.
- Fixes an issue where the Trash and Junk button may have failed on Gmail.
- Fixes an issue with emoji skin modifiers weren’t displayed correctly (will require re-sync of those messages).
- Fixes an issue where it was difficult to focus the compose text area.
- Fixes an issue where Smart Labels for contacts were ignored if the message was received via push notification.
- Fixes an issue where messages may not have loaded in Contact Profiles.
- Fixes an issue where AutoReply would remove the thread below it.
- Fixes an issue where the “Unanswered” filter did nothing.
- Fixes an issue where the global unread count only used messages inside of Smartboxes.
- Fixes an issue where drafts may not have been removed after sending a message.
- Fixes an issue where messages may have appeared duplicated after sending.
- Fixes an issue where syncing may have paused if you multitasked out of the app.
- Fixes an issue where signatures weren’t inserted into the compose editor.
New
- There’s now an indicator if a conversation has been grouped (currently only on Lists).
- Messages marked as Reply Later will now be included in a Smartbox’s unread count if that Smartbox contains a Reply Later filter.
- You can now choose between Trash or Archive as your default delete action (swipes, buttons, etc).
- You can now choose between Labels or Folders as your default organisation style.
- You can now delete aliases.
- You can now choose after how long a message is Marked as Read.
Improved
- If you have a single pinned message, tapping it will take you straight to the message, rather than opening the stack.
- Big Mail now trims whitespace and invisible characters from message previews for a cleaner look.
- Fallback contact images now chooses better initials for the monogram.
- Replying to a message marked as “Reply Later” will mark it as a complete.
- Replying to a message will now mark it as “Answered”.
